IKEA JOBS in Ireland – Careers in IKEA

There have been over 4,500 applicants for 50 supervisor jobs in the first Ikea superstore to open in the Republic in July. Great company to work for OR only company with jobs?

IKEA will hold the final stages of its recruitment drive this weekend at the Ballymun Civic Center between 10am and 5pm. The company has 280 additional jobs to full and hope to meet suitable part-time and full-time staff this weekend. The 280 jobs will be on top of 120 management and general roles already filled.

A total of 500 direct staff will be employed at the store which is significant in these times. The breakdown is 10 senior management, 55 managers and 50 supervisors although nearly all workers will be titled co-workers within company culture and their “humble” management structure.

Almost all the new hires will be from Ireland as the company here and has emphasised hiring locally through its initiatives with the Ballymun Partnership.

There will be certainly big interest in the recruitment drive BUT also the opening in July. The Dublin outlet will be 31,500 sq ft representing one of Ikea’s flagship stores and it will include a restaurant and a creche.

Additional Training & Qualifications

Training & Qualifications is important in any job market. It can open doors to potential employment and it can enhance your value to existing employers. Education & Training has been revolutionised over the last decade with many flexible options available potential students.

As my main focus is careers I regularly review many CV’s and often see the words “good IT skills” or “Excellent MS Office Skills”. Most jobseekers state it but in reality this is often not the case. How about if you could prove this with a recognised MS Office qualification?

Microsoft Qualifications

Most CV’s indicate that the owner has good MS Office skills BUT what if you had a recognised qualification to back it up. CAREERSANDJOBS can offer you this qualification at a discounted price – click

Careers & Jobs in Ireland – A look at the papers

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

The job section of newspapers is playing a declining role as a tool for jobseekers as much advertising goes online BUT it should not be ignored yet. I have had a quick look at the Irish Independent today and highlighted some of the interesting jobs.

The stand out role (or should that be stand up) this week is Chief Executive Officer for Smithwick’s Cat Laughs. This role will be based in Kilkenny and for more information visit www.smithwickscatlaughs.com

Education Jobs – there are quite a few teaching posts advertised with efforts by UK institutions to attract our teachers. Northfleet Technology College is seeking English, Maths and Science Teachers. For more information www.ntc.kent.sch.uk

Construction Jobs – not surprisingly most of the construction jobs are overseas. The big areas seem to be DUBAI, ABU DHABI and SAUDI ARABIA

Careersportal – New Career site for Students

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

A new career site Careersportal has been launched aimed at 2nd and 3rd level students. Much needed if you ask me!! The site will provide information on a variety of careers across industry sectors. Apart from supporting students the site will support parents and teachers and guidance counselors keeping all up to date. This is a problem sometimes with career advice from an educational source – there can be a lack of up to date knowledge about the job market, trends etc.

Careersportal will give students as much information as possible to help them make an informed decision on career direction. It will include tools like Career Exploration to help find a suitable career, employment sector or educational course. It will also profile 30 sectors in Ireland and up to 500 occupation profiles. Companies in Ireland also get an opportunity to profile themselves.

Hopefully initiative like this will reduce the large number of graduates pursuing the wrong qualifications and careers. If you are a student you should definitely check out the site. If you are currently working this site could still prove to be a valuable resource.

Education – what are we actually studying?

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

In a previous post I pointed out that GMIT was offering students $1,000 euro (excuse the dollar sign) to study science. I now read today in the Irish Indo there are concerns about the number of Leaving Cert students studying languages and also business subjects like economics, accounting and business studies.

Am I correct to assume that we are quickly running out of subjects? What subjects are students actually studying? Has the rise of celebrity chefs inspired all school goers to take up home economics?
