Little birdie tells me that HP is to announce lots of new IT jobs in their Galway office. Mostly .net and Java jobs, for their business portals. It will be interesting to see if they will announce their jobs before Christmas, since I know of quite few people that would really welcome some new java jobs in Galway. HP being HP with their benefits package and all will most likely make quite a few both .net developers and Java developers excited. It is not really every day that that many jobs are opened these days. So well done Hewlett Packard!

Good news for HP Jobs in Galway really….

AOL create 20 New Software Engineering Jobs

AOL are seeking a further 20 software engineers to join their Media Technology, Advertising Technology and Patch teams in Dublin. They are aiming to fill the posts as soon as possible and plan to begin interviews within the next couple of weeks. They had a strong response to their last recruitment drive in June and are confident they can find the right people with the skill set we need.

The new jobs are all high value experienced professional software engineering positions, suitable for candidates with Java qualifications. Opportunities are available for both senior and intermediately experienced recruits, with industry experience ranging between five to eight and two to four years respectively. Successful candidates will have excellent opportunities for travel within AOL’s global network of companies and enjoy highly attractive benefits as part of their packages.

AOL has been based in Dublin for the past 10 years and currently employs 133 people. Dublin is its development engine for Europe and works alongside its sister Development Centres in San Francisco, Dulles, New York, Bangalore and Frankfurt. The Company announced in June that it plans to move to a new headquarters in Dublin City Centre.

For more information visit youtube or AOL website

GOOGLE NEWS MEANS GREAT NEWS FOR IRELAND & POTENTIAL JOBS

Google keep on moving up and this is great news for Ireland. Indication is that there will be more investment and more jobs. Google is ahead a huge employer in Ireland but looks set to get even bigger. Read the report on Google below.

Internet giant Google is set to increase investment at its Dublin base and hire more staff on the heels of strong third-quarter results.

Chief executive Eric Schmidt confirmed the news yesterday in Killarney where the company was hosting its European employee conference — Engage 2009.

He said that as global revenues grow, so too would Google’s investment in Ireland where the company employs 1,500 at its Dublin base on Barrow Street.

“The majority of global revenues go through here. We will be looking to hire,” Mr Schmidt said.

Despite the tough economic environment, last week Google reported a 7pc increase in third-quarter revenues of $6bn, prompting Mr Schmidt to say the worst of the recession was behind the company and that he planned to invest heavily in the company’s future.

As many as 2/3 of organisations surveyed recently admitted that they will not survive next year unless there is a drastic change in the current economic conditions.

A recent survey by ISME indicated that many were pessimistic and that they did not see evidence of an upturn in the economy. Instead they faced into reduced orders and difficult accessing credit.

There were 600 companies surveyed and it is no surprise that the construction sector was the most pessimistic. Retail, distribution, manufacturing and services were not far behind though.

This news has a major impact on jobs in the sector with over 40% of those surveyed expecting to let staff go.

Certainly there was no evidence of “green shoots” from this ISME survey.
