Following on from the post yesterday I have done a bit more research on how to find retail jobs in Ireland.
There are a few key agencies who recruit for retail jobs – Eden Recruitment, RightFit 4 Retail, Excel Recruitment, Star Retail. You can also get access to loads of jobs on the jobboards including EmployIreland and retailjobs365.
Remember my advice on the previous post. Visit shopping center websites as many of them see to advertise all open vacancies on their sites. I think this is a great idea BUT also a great resource if you seeking work in Retail in Ireland.
I pointed out Dundrum & Blanchardstown Shopping centres BUT there are many similar centres around Ireland. The Jervis Centre in D1 does not list jobs but it does list all the shops and contact details – missed opportunity I guess as these shops are probably paying elsewhere to find staff.

I was helping a client with job search strategies and I came across an interesting find. Basically my client wanted a job in Retail and lived in Blanchardstown. My client was focusing on city center retail jobs which is fine. For some strange reason they had not searched locally (must enjoy the congestion in Dublin). I googled “Jobs In Blanchardstown” and the search highlighted blanchardstowncentre.ie. The town centre actually advertises retail jobs on its site – Bodyshop, BT2, H&M, HMV and many more retail companies are advertising. Guess what when I checked out dundrum.ie they do the same – Harvey Nicols, House of Fraser and much more.
This is a great strategy for retail jobseekers. Many will go directly to jobboards or recruitment agencies BUT you can actually check out the retail centre websites directly.

IBM has announced that it is setting up a cloud computing centre in Dublin. This is the first of its kind in Europe and the project will be supported by the IDA. This development will create about 21 new jobs. Nine of these will be research based. OK – it is not many jobs but they are high-end jobs. Its quality and not quantity – that is what the government will say.
The new Dublin-based site will act as the European hub and it will provide research and other services to future facilities across EMEA. The site will also train lecturers at the DIT’s School of Computing in the area of cloud computing.
The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment – Micheal Martin made the announcement and said that the decision to locate in Ireland highlighted the importance of Ireland in IBM’s global R&D.
Keep your eyes peeled for these jobs over the coming months and for the active readers why not call IBM to find out exactly when these jobs will be coming on stream.

I had an interesting conversation with a jobseeker this evening (yes I take work calls on a Saturday). Anyway this person was quite worried about the economy and job security. They said they would love a job with the Council or the Civil Service.
I am sure that many employees in Ireland are having similar thoughts.
There have been many redundancies in Ireland and some sectors are a bit dodgy at the minute. The question remains should you hunt out a safe number or follow a path you will offer fulfillment.
It is different horses for different courses. Personally those environments would not suit me but they will suit others.
I told this caller where to find other possiilites in the public setor and related so I guess I will post the list just in case anyone else is interested.
If you have any views on the above dilemma please post.
p.s – there are educational institutions on the list – not too sure if the would be classed public sector but they would be related.
