Public Sector Jobs – IBEC recommends 5% cut in wage bill.

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

Irish companies want the Government to cut public sector wage bill by up to 5pc. The current wage bill for the sector is EUR17bn. If this move materialised it would result in up to 10,000 job losses. IBEC reckons the move is essential to help the economy in Ireland and curb the EUR10bn budget deficit.

Do you think such measures are needed?

Do you think IBEC is right to promote such drastic measures?

One could argue that all businesses are trying to cope with terrible market conditions and being forced to reduce spending and cut workforce so why should the public sector be any different. But will another 10,000 unemployed really be the answer. Certainly a difficult one.

Bertie Ahern – New post government created in Ireland!!

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Politics is related to jobs if you like it or not. We can argue that this is a jobs and careers article. There has been a new job created in Ireland and there is one Bertie Ahern who is in need of some expert career advice!!

Bertie Ahern creates new job in Government.

I must say I like Bertie Ahern and think he did a great job for Irish politics. He has certainly left big shoes to fill. I was listening to the news updates this morning and most FF politicians are siding with the Brian Cowen corner to fill the new vacancy. I must say it was a bit of a shock the news but that is life. Anyway who would blame him for getting out? Negative media and attacks on his personal life. Sure the poor man couldn’t even enjoy a pint of Bass in peace.

What next for Bertie Ahern?

My guess is that he will not be stuck for offers or that he will ever have financial trouble to worry about or personal loans to secure. Look at Clinton and soon to be Blair. These guys are making a killing. Worst case scenario is that he can always to into competition with his daughter and become a writer – we have the title already – “ps – i owe you”. Judging from the emails, texts and pictures you can see that the jokers have been working overtime on the Bertie Ahern jokes.

From Bertie Ahern to Brian Cowen

This is a jobs and careers site so what advice can we give Brian Cowen assuming that the bookies favourite gets the newly created post. I would be interested to hear what you have to say – funny or serious comments.

Public Sector – Jobs in the Public Sector

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

I had an interesting conversation with a jobseeker this evening (yes I take work calls on a Saturday). Anyway this person was quite worried about the economy and job security. They said they would love a job with the Council or the Civil Service.

I am sure that many employees in Ireland are having similar thoughts.

There have been many redundancies in Ireland and some sectors are a bit dodgy at the minute. The question remains should you hunt out a safe number or follow a path you will offer fulfillment.

It is different horses for different courses. Personally those environments would not suit me but they will suit others.

I told this caller where to find other possiilites in the public setor and related so I guess I will post the list just in case anyone else is interested.

If you have any views on the above dilemma please post.

p.s – there are educational institutions on the list – not too sure if the would be classed public sector but they would be related.
