Over 160 employees will lose jobs after 5 firms confirmed layoffs yesterday. The West of Ireland suffered the most with the news including Shannon, Limerick and Kerry.

CLARE – Agilisys Contact Services

Agilisys Contact Services announced it is to close its centre in Shannon transferring operations to the UK. The company has been based in Shannon for four years and had 71 employees. The company hopes that some of the affected employees will relocate to the UK.

LIMERICK – Irish Dresden

Dromcollogher (Co. Limerick) firm Irish Dresden has stopped manufacturing with the loss of 15 jobs. The company manufactured delicate porcelain mementos with pieces in the White House. Decline in global sales was cited as the reason for the closure.

KERRY – BeoCare & Beru Electronics

In Kerry – healthcare company BeoCare is expected to close and Beru Electronics is seeking redundancies. This is expected to result in 40 jobs lost.

DUBLIN – New Oceans Limited

Print and design company New Oceans Ltd has closed with the loss of 36 jobs. The collapse of the business and closure is linked to a significant fall in trade in recent months.

New jobs on the way for the Mid West with 3 firms to create over 200 new jobs. Microsemi is a US firm producing equipment for space exploration. If reports are accurate they are planning an expansion which will create 185 new jobs over the next two years. This is great news for Ennis and the Munster region. What a turnaround too. Only last May the company was close to pulling out of Ireland. Also in Ennis Async Technologies has announced that it will be creating 11 new jobs. Down the road in Limerick Avvio is set to create 30 new jobs for the city. The 3 announcement bring a combined total of 224 jobs.

Sadly Aer Arann announced that it will axe 100 jobs as part of a survival plan. The aviation firm has suffered during recent economic turmoil. Workers were informed this week of the major restructuring and cost cutting programme.

Careers and Jobs offering you all the latest Jobs and Careers news in Ireland.

There is much more to CV writing than simply listing everything you can about your work experience, education, skills and hobbies. It requires a focused approach putting more emphasis on the recruiter than you. 95% of all CV’s fail because they lack focus.

CV Format & CV Layout TIPS

You must avoid using the first person pronoun – Start sentences with action verbs or power verbs instead of first person pronoun. Examples of power verbs include; managed, developed, created and organised.

Keep your sentences short - CV’s need short, crisp statements and don’t get carried away. Remember that statements do not have to be complete sentences.

Use plain English – Don’t believe the urban myth that bigger words create a bigger impression. I saw a cover letter the other day with the word “sterling” and not used in the currency context.

Use bullet points – Bullet points make it easier for the reader. Paragraphs can be daunting. There are pro’s and con’s for both but my research with clients concludes that bullet points come out on top.

General to Specific – Organise you information that it flows from general to specific points.

This CV advice was provided by Measurability. Measurability writes CV’s for jobseekers at all levels of the organisation and across industry sector. Measurability write CV’s for clients nationwide Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan, Dublin, Meath, Louth, Kildare, Wexford, Wicklow, Carlow, Laois, Offaly, Westmeath, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary, Clare, Waterford, Galway, Sligo, Roscommon, Mayo, Leitrim, Kilkenny, Longford (and the other county I cannot seem to get – ha ha)
