Google keep on moving up and this is great news for Ireland. Indication is that there will be more investment and more jobs. Google is ahead a huge employer in Ireland but looks set to get even bigger. Read the report on Google below.

Internet giant Google is set to increase investment at its Dublin base and hire more staff on the heels of strong third-quarter results.

Chief executive Eric Schmidt confirmed the news yesterday in Killarney where the company was hosting its European employee conference — Engage 2009.

He said that as global revenues grow, so too would Google’s investment in Ireland where the company employs 1,500 at its Dublin base on Barrow Street.

“The majority of global revenues go through here. We will be looking to hire,” Mr Schmidt said.

Despite the tough economic environment, last week Google reported a 7pc increase in third-quarter revenues of $6bn, prompting Mr Schmidt to say the worst of the recession was behind the company and that he planned to invest heavily in the company’s future.

IBM is to cut around 5,000 of its US staff with many jobs transferred to India.

Internet giant Google has disclosed it is cutting nearly 200 sales and marketing staff. The layoffs are the biggest in the company’s history outside of a merger restructuring.

Amazon.com is closing down distribution centres in three US states and will transfer or lay off around 210 staff.

Social networking website Facebook announced that it will to create 70 new jobs with its decision to establish its international headquarters in the city of Dublin. I guess the guys from Ebay and Google have told them about the Guinness and the nightlife.

The headquarters will have a wide range of roles – online technical, operations and sales to support users in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Facebook if you have not heard of it is quite a big hit at the minute and has its headquarters in Palo Alto, California. There will be a big demand for these roles so get ahead of the game.

Google suffers some negative news!!

Google is slashing 330 jobs at DoubleClick in the US which is about a quarter of the workforce. This is following the acquisition of the company for $3.1bn. Google are being tight lipped about this development which I guess in understandable as no company wants to talk about this type of news.

This type of job cutting has never been associated with Google as it has been up and up for the company. Google’s message is that with any mergers there can be duplication and job loss.

Is this the end of the job cuts for Google and DoubleClick?
