INTEL CUT 300 JOBS IN LEIXLIP

Intel has announced that they will be cutting 300 jobs at Leixlip in the form of compulsory redundancy. The company cited fall in demand for products as the key factor in the decision. This is a sever blow for the workers and poor timing for the government who are creating a pr mission on “smart economy” in Ireland

Examplar Smart Network will create 350 new jobs in Ireland. The high tech computer firm is designing a next generation communications grid. This news is part of the government plans to create 30,000 new jobs in a “smart economy” within the next decade.

Intel, Smart Telecom, Facebook & Telcorp – Weekly Jobs Update in Ireland

SMART TELECOM confirmed this week that they were considering job cuts. Word from the company indicated that there could be up to 30 or 40 positions at risk from the 90 strong workforce.

INTEL announced that it is seeking 300 job cuts at its plant in Leixlip, County Kildare. It seemed like Ireland had missed out on global restructuring with 6,000 jobs cut across plants globally. This news is worrying for workers at the plant even though the company has stressed that the plant has a strong role to play in future.

FACEBOOK will create 40 new jobs in Dublin. We brought you news of this earlier in the year. Although the new jobs numbers created is small it does sent a message that Ireland can still attract big name employers due to its strategic geographical position and skilled workforce.

Mobile services firm TELCORP announced it is going to create 20 new jobs in Dublin. Telcorp was founded in mid 2008. The company is hiring mobile sales and service staff for its office in Sandyford where it currently employs five staff and provides a range of services from mobile handsets to fixed line solutions to IT services.

SUPERQUINN – 400 JOBS LOST

Superquinn has announced that it will close its outlet in Dundalk as part of cost cutting. A total of 400 employees will be made redundant across Superquinn with 67 in Dundalk. The company will be shedding 12% of its 3,300 workforce in Ireland. Cross-border shopping has been cited as the key factor.

UNITED DRUG

United Drug is believed to be planning job cuts in Ireland according to the Evening Herald. The company employs 900 staff in Ireland.

INTEL CUTS 6,000 JOBS GLOBALLY.

The good news is that Ireland does not seem to be impacted. Intel is closing plants in Malaysia, Philipines, Oregan and California.

PERMANENT TSB

Over 100 staff at PTSB will be paid career breaks over the coming weeks as part of cost cutting exercise. It is believed that over 2,000 applied for the the offer of 20K for two year break and 35k for a 3 year break. Looks like a great company to work for when the staff are jumping at the chance to get out.

Avocent International Ltd sheds 64 jobs in Shannon

Shannon and Dublin based Avocent International Ltd has announced that it will be cutting its Irish workforce by 64 as a result of restructuring. The IT company currently employs 167 staff in Ireland so staff numbers will drop to 103. The company specialises in IT infrastructure management and employs 1800 staff globally with clients including Boeing, Intel & Microsoft. Although 200 jobs will be lost globally Shannon will be the hardest hit.

These jobs will be lost to singapore with costs being cited as the main driver for the move. This latest news is another hammer blow to the region.
