Irish Jobs released postive job data and I noted that Galway was experiencing highest groths in job activity. It should be no surprise then that Cambus Medical announced the creation of 60 new jobs.

A medical device company in Spiddal, Co Galway, has said it will create 60 new jobs over the next three years bringing its workforce up to 85 people. Cambus Medical currently employs 25 people in Spiddal. Half of its current employees are third-level graduates. IBM cut jobs in Dublin & Boston Scientific move jobs from Donegal

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

There has been negative jobs news for two counties in Ireland – Donegal & Dublin due to announcement by two major employers IBM & Boston Scientific.

IBM is seeking 120 voluntary redundancies at its plant in Mulhuddart as it moves the manufacturing of high-end computer servers to a base in Singapore. Those workers taking redundancy option are expected to leave by the end of April. This news continues the trend of manufacturing moving from Ireland to cheaper cost base countries.

Boston Scientific has dealt a blow to Donegal. The company plans to move the manufacturing facility from Letterkenny to Galway. The plant employs 120 staff in Donegal and according to the company some of these workers can move to Galway plant.

Boston Scientific & Howley Civil Engineering shed 500 jobs – Cork & Tullamore

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Cork and Tullamore suffered sever job loss today with a double announcement. In Tullamore Boston Scientific announced that it will be closing operations with approximately 250 job losses. This is a serious blow to the midlands egion which has had its fair share of poor jobs news recently. What will be more worrying though is the fact that these jobs were in Medical Device Sector. Meanwhile in Cork there were more construction job losses with the closure of Howley Civil Engineering. This unfortunate news will see similar job loss figures.

Super Tuesday for shannon with 250 new jobs created by Zimmer

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

It was a Super Tuesday in the US an in Ireland today. US Medical Device manufacturer Zimmer announced an investment of 50m Euro in Shannon creating 250 jobs. This is great news for the region and the withering manufacturing sector.

Zimmer lends its name to the well know product the Zimmer Frame which is defined as a tool for people who need additional support to maintain balance or stability. Its a bit weird that Zimmer is now a tool for a country that needs additional support to maintain balance and stability. Zimmer offers a reversal to the trend on manufacturing relocation and redundancy.

I suppose we have to give credit to the IDA, government and all those involved. They get it in the neck when things go bad (which is regular at the moment) so it is only right to acknowledge this success.

This news signals a busy time for jobseekers in the region. Get busy working on your CV and interview preparation.
