First Derivatives & ICS Computing – Belfast & Newry – 190 Jobs

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Financial IT company First Derivatives will create 140 jobs in Newry where they already employ 130 staff. The company indicated that most of the jobs will be filled by locals (what about all the southern shoppers). The majority of the new jobs are consultancy with some management. First Derivatives provides consultancy and software services for financial institutions who want to analyse their exposure to debt.

Service & IT Software company ICS Computing will create 50 new jobs in Belfast at its headquarters. The new job creation is as a result of a new contract with NHS. ICS currently employs over 250 people at its Belfast office.

Other news impacting the north was that ASDA will create 7,000 new jobs which will surely mean more employed in Northern Ireland.

Citigroup – 145 Jobs in N. Ireland & Complete Telecom create 10 in Dublin

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Two positive news stories to tell you about – cherish them as they are few and far between at the minute. It looks like we are spreading the love too as jobs are created both sides of the border.

Complete Telecom announced that it will be growing by 10 staff as part of an ongoing expansion. The jobs will be created at their HQ in Dublin with a few scattered regionally. Most of the roles are in Engineering and Support. Get your CV’s dusted down as recruitment is happening as you read this post. Complete hope to have the new positions filled by September.

Citigroup announce that they will be creating 145 new jobs in Northern Ireland. This is great news and financial services and insurance sectors have been taking a bit of a hammering with the Axa Insurance news and Hibernian news. The Citigroup announcement will bring the number of staff to 850 in the North. Lets hope that this is not a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul and that this move is not part of a strategy to access cheaper costs in the North.

We are a run of good stories now with these last two announcements. Let’s hope it continues. Need help with CV Writing Service or Interview Coaching?

Please see a list of counties with stands at the recent FAS show at Croke Park. If you are out of work or just fancy a change worth investigating these locations.

One country not on the list is Australia – Sound good to me!!

Kingspan create 40 jobs in Newry BUT 800 jobs for the South

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

Looks like the Northies are robbing our jobs again.

Kingspan has announced that it has created 40 new jobs in Newry as a result of a 6m euro investment by the groups Environmental & Renewables subsidiary.

Looks like it is all positive news for Newry at the minute. Newry has City status, Sainsbury’s (cheap shopping), 40 new jobs and even David McWilliams is writing about the town (I mean City) in today’s Independent.

What does the south get?

We get an announcement that NEW start up companies will create 800 new jobs over the next 3 years. This is on top of the 600 created by these companies so far. There are two ways you can look at this announcement.

Negative: Micheal Martin has nothing else positive to say and need some spin to deflect all the negative job loss announcements. I mean come on!! This would not have even made the papers two years ago.

Positive: This is great news for the Economy as we are breaking from the reliance of US multinationals. They created the Celtic Tiger and now these budding entrepreneurs are creating the Eccentric Tiger. Hey got to get a new name in before McWilliams does. Anyway don’t they always say that entrepreneurs are a bit different?

Careers and Jobs in Northern Ireland

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

Careers and Jobs will increase by 180,000 in Northern Ireland if plans go ahead to reduce corporation tax rate to 12.5% (similar to the Republic). Not only are we shopping in Newry and Belfast but according to some analysts we could soon be working there too. Will Inward Foreign Investment into the North compliment the South or cause further pain and job losses? Will job announcement like this week in Tralee soon be a rare event? Many would argue that they already are. Businessmen, politicians, IDA and Sir Anthony O’Reilly think it will be a benefit for the whole Island.

Careers in Northern Ireland.

So what would be the benefits for jobseekers working in the North. I will list some that spring to mind but feel free to add to the post.

1. Beef Sausages
2. Better roads
3. Potato bread and Soda’s
4. Better work life balance – No more M50 or Mad Cow Roundabout
5. Tennent’s and Harp (only joking)
6. IKEA
